We all know that bathing your dog too often will strip the natural oils from their skin and dry it out causing all kinds of short and long term issues. We also know, that snuggling with a stinky or dirty dog is just no fun. So what is the magic number?
Simply said- it depends mostly on your dog's coat type & lifestyle, along with any possible skin conditions they might have. Once you get your dog's coat type down, (if you do not know it yet, type their breed here to find out), consider their lifestyle- are they pretty outdoorsy and they are more of a home body? In the absence of skin conditions, our experts recommend that:
Long Coated Dogs are bathed every 2-3 weeks.
Short Coated Dogs are bathed every 1 to 2 weeks.
Wired Coated Dogs are bathed every 2 to 3 weeks.
Curly Coated Dogs are bathed every 2 to 3 weeks.
Double Coated Dogs are bathed every 2 to 4 weeks.
Hairless Dogs are bathed every 1 to 2 weeks.
If your dog is the "outdoorsy type" , we would cut that in half. And of course if your dog has any skin or coat conditions, then consult with your vet to help establish their best bathing schedule.
